Our Story
Why I Founded Parents of Brave Hearts
As the mother of a child with special needs who has been diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), epilepsy, and is nonverbal, I understand firsthand how overwhelming, heartbreaking, and isolating this journey can be.
Throughout our experience, I realized that families need more than educational resources. They need emotional support, encouragement, and a community that truly understands what they are going through. Although there are many organizations and agencies that provide valuable services, accessing those services has not always been easy.
There were times when I waited months for appointments, To see what they can help and providers cancel or not show up. I also wanted to connect with other parents, but some support groups required paid memberships or event fees, making it difficult for many families, including mine, to participate.
These experiences inspired me to create Parents of Brave Hearts. A welcoming community where families can feel supported, connected, and empowered without unnecessary barriers.
Like many parents, I am grateful for the support my son receives through our school district. However, I also believe families benefit from learning directly from professionals outside the school setting. Through our podcast, I hope to invite educators, therapists, physicians, behavior specialists, psychologists, advocates, and other experts to share practical advice on supporting children at home and in school, understanding behaviors, navigating special education, accessing community resources, and maintaining positive mental health for the entire family.
There were many moments when I felt exhausted, discouraged. Some hospitalization broke our hearts, and recovering emotionally after that was never easy. Caring for a child with complex medical needs affects every part of a family's life. Parents often carry invisible emotional burdens while trying to stay strong for their children.
Yet the bravest person in our family is Freddy (my son). Every single day, he courageously fights for his health, his comfort, and his future. His strength inspires me to continue advocating for families like ours and reminds me why this mission matters.
Through Parents of Brave Hearts, my goal is to build a trusted community where no parent feels alone. I want families to know there is hope, support, and a network of people who genuinely care. Together, we can learn from one another, encourage one another, and celebrate every milestone. No matter how big or small.
